10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (KJV)
Paul is telling the Ephesian that because they are Christians they will be constantly fighting spiritual battles.
He tells them that as Christians they will need armour but not the kind they are used to. They will need a special armour that God gives them which will allow them to withstand great spiritual fights.
Spiritual battles are not like other battles the people have fought before. He explains that it is a spiritual war against satan (who is the ruler of this world for a short time) and his workers. These battles are not fought here on earth but in the Heavenly places.
Paul is telling the people that in Spiritual wars they will not be fighting with real armour pieces, but they must be covered by a special armour of God. Paul reminds them that in order to win they must be strong in the Lord and must be ready to use the power of God’s strength. It is the only way for Christians to win.
Paul tells the Ephesian Christians that satan will come after them in full force. His main plan is to make the Christian sin. If he can accomplish that, then the battle is all but won for him.
But there is good news! The armour that God has provided for the Christian to wear at all times, is received in faith and prayer. By praying and asking for the armour each day, Christians are ready for any fight that enemy may begin. And because we wear the armour that God has provided, Christians can be assured of standing strong and winning the battle.
